Reporting to the Internal Medicine CSO, the Head of the WRD Metabolism Group will be responsible for providing metabolism expertise and experimental support across the WRD research units engaged in metabolic research, including: cardiac metabolism, hepatic metabolism, immune-metabolism, neuro-metabolism, cancer metabolism and rare metabolic disorders. This senior level position will be responsible for providing both platform support in metabolomics, lipidomics, metabolic flux and systems biology as well as experimental biology support. The Head of the WRD Metabolism Group will be a strong lateral thinker and an effective networker enabling s/he to connect metabolic expertise across the WRD research units as well as with leading academic institutions. The successful candidate will be a driver of innovation and scientific excellence, identifying and advancing the best novel therapeutic hypotheses, targets and molecules.

  • Manage a group of 20 - 30 scientists involved in metabolism biology, metabolomics, lipidomics, metabolic flux and systems biology to support discovery research in the areas of cardiac metabolism, hepatic metabolism, immune-metabolism, neuro-metabolism, cancer metabolism and rare metabolic disorders.

  • Act as an expert consultant and collaborator to research units involved in metabolism research; leverage expertise to support the development and advancement of novel, first in class drug discovery programs

  • Collaborate with key internal and external metabolism scientists to drive improved understanding of disease pathophysiology at the level of molecular pathways.

  • Influence the global external environment through a visible presence in the academic scientific community and active engagement with key opinion leaders

  • Maintain an expert view of innovative technologies that support metabolism research; make recommendations on whether to internalize new capabilities or access through collaborative relationships.

  • Inspire, model, and reinforce colleague expectations to urgently create value with an appropriate return on investment, apply innovative, rigorous science to discovering new medicines, accept individual and collective accountability for value creation, and continuously improve organizational effectiveness.

• Preferred Training &; Education: Ph.D.

• Deep working knowledge of diseases and biology relevant to Metabolic Disease.

• >15 years' experience as an independent investigator directing a team of scientists in high quality metabolic research

• Recognized deep biological expertise and record of innovative research in metabolism.

• Established national and international scientific reputation.

• Demonstrated track record of high impact publications

• Record of team leadership and active, productive collaboration

• Decision making and problem solving profile that enables marrying emerging science with unmet medical need to identify potential breakthrough medicines.
