Pfizer Scientist, Neurodegeneration (non in Cambridge, Massachusetts
The Lipids and Lysosomes group (Neurodegeneration) in the Pfizer Internal Medicine Research unit located in Cambridge, MA is focused on building a strong lipids and lysosome platform to develop world class therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. The successful candidate will contribute to a range of drug discovery efforts centered on identification of novel targets, pathways, and mechanisms involving the role of lipids and lysosomes and their dysfunction in neurodegeneration. The primary goals of this position will be to support project team efforts through development and validation of robust in vitro assays, evaluating in vivo models and contributing to mechanistic understanding of underlying biology.
In this position, the successful candidate will work with highly driven teams as part of a large matrix environment, collaborating with multiple groups including discovery biology and several partner lines including medicinal chemistry, PDM and the central primary pharmacology group.
The Lipids and Lysosomes lab within the Neurodegeneration group is seeking a highly motivated biologist whose primary responsibility will be to:
Perform laboratory experiments to help establish robust disease biology, biochemical and cell-based compound screening assays and carry out in vivo evaluation across a broad array of target classes for the project teams.
Operate a broad array of liquid-handling and plate-based pharmacology equipment as needed to ensure efficient automated workflows for newly developed assays.
Identify new mechanisms of exploration across the neurodegenerative disease landscape and integrate contemporary and cutting edge technology into a successful drug discovery program.
Identify and develop scientific strategies to support the goals of the Lipids and Lysosomes lab.
Apply innovative approaches to test hypotheses; evaluating and incorporating new science and technology to solve research problems.
Be a meticulous and data driven scientist, clear thinker with a passion for scientific exploration and the ability to communicate a vision and be able to work in a collaborative environment.
