Role Summary

Rare Disease North America, conceived as part of the category leadership construct, is a newly structured organization that generates nearly $1B annual in revenues. The focus of the group is to transform thousands of patients and families lives by working together collaboratively to create innovative programs that serve the patient community. This newly formed category has been developed to maximize the existing in-line portfolio in hemophilia, gaucher disease, TTR-FAP, acromegaly and other endocrine disorders while positioning Pfizer as a rare disease category leader with an exciting and promising pipeline, including gene therapy platform, sickle cell disease, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Role Responsibilities

This role will help lead a key franchise within Pfizer Rare Diseases, specifically by managing the Elelyso and Somavert brand strategy and promotions for Consumers and Digital. This role requires marketing expertise to advance brand imperatives that will grow these Rare Disease Brands within a complex, dynamic, highly competitive, and extremely patient-centric treatment setting. The role requires strong strategic, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills, a creative mindset, and a proven track record of success working in a team-based environment with multiple marketing, sales, medical, and other cross-functional partners.

• Create and innovate novel approaches specific to the highly patient centric nature of the Rare Disease customers that will increase the number of patients helped with our portfolio of brands

• Lead brand consumer and digital strategies across customers and stakeholders including patients and advocacy organizations; Manage consumer/digital campaigns and continually refine messaging and communication strategy

• Foster relationships with key Advocacy organizations to further customer experience and insights and uncover and translate relevant customer insights into commercial plans

• Assess effectiveness of current Consumer/Digital marketing programs and optimize mix to increase impact

• Work with marketing, analytics, and sales colleagues to understand performance trends and identify opportunities for course correction, as needed

• Anticipate changes in the competitive landscape and proactively develop relevant response plans

• Contribute consumer/digital strategies/approaches to Annual Operating Plan

• Support commercial planning for any line extensions or lifecycle indications

• Engage marketing colleagues, sales, medical affairs, agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate strategic and tactical alignment

• Liaise closely with HCP lead for Growth brands


  • BS Degree Required, MBA or other advanced degree highly desirable

  • Demonstrated success executing complex marketing programs

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with varied internal stakeholders to improve business performance.

  • Demonstrated track record of achievement and of influencing business outcomes across diverse functional boundaries.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage advertising and other agencies to produce communications that impact business performance

  • Solid business acumen and organizational skills with excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills for a wide variety of audiences, including senior management.

  • Strong analytical skills; detail and action oriented; creative.

  • Experience with product positioning and branding is not necessary but would be desirable

  • Ability and experience in translating science into marketing messages.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively both one-on-one and in groups.

  • Self-motivated and a team player.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills.

  • Ability to effectively lead and influence an indirect team

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver results on multiple, complex, competing projects in a deadline oriented environment

  • Ability to effectively lead a collaborative team environment.

  • Must be driven by success.

  • Five or more years experience in marketing or related marketing area

  • Experience in Pharmaceutical Marketing

  • Field Sales experience desirable but not necessary

  • Must be able to organize multiple projects over time

  • Strong Presentation skills: Experience with presentations to large group using a variety of media

  • Agency or vendor management experience required
