Pfizer I&I Medical Director of Medical Operations in New York, New York

The Director of Medical Operations (DMO) is a member of the global medical leadership team. The DMO combines organizational, especially financial and project management excellence and understanding of the strategic priorities and operating plans with the goal of seamless execution of the plans. He/she is a part of a working environment where colleagues always understand and exhibit customer-focused medical professionalism with honor and integrity. The DMO reports to the Group Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and closely collaborates with the Global, Regional, Cluster, and Country Medical Leads, and the Above Brand and Brand Medical Directors.

Strategic Alignment and Initiatives

  • Develops and leads medical programs supporting TA/Brand strategic imperatives and critical success factors

  • Coordinates the strategic agenda for the Medical Leadership team and ensures accuracy of clearly documented leadership decisions and tracking of agreed actions.

  • Includes identifying, raising/sharing, and implementing best practices; ensuring consistency in overarching processes and systems, where needed; and developing partnerships with key colleagues in other functional areas to ensure ongoing alignment and efficiency.

  • Collaborates with other medical operations colleagues for consistency and alignment across medical groups

Key role in Financial Management / Tracking for I&I Medical Affairs

  • Manages medical budget using customized planning, recording and tracking templates in conjunction with Finance colleagues

  • Responsible for headcount management & ensuring I&I Medical Affairs organizational charts are kept up to date

  • Ensure alignment between priorities and resources allocation, and assisting teams in evaluating problems, escalating them in timely manner, and prioritizing deliverables.

  • Liaise with vendors and finance to ensure timely submissions and accurate forecasts are maintained

  • Collaborates with finance, team and service providers to facilitate accruals, speedily resolve queries, and provide guidance on internal regulations and process to all parties

  • Leads Operating Plan process, building and maintaining controlled, documents and presentations to ensure effective communication and delivery of the medical operating plan

  • Manages development of the Operating Plan in Partnership with the Project Management team & other functional lines.

Communication

  • Develops and delivers communications across all formats to the Global, Regional and Country Medical Affairs community

  • Leads the implementation of internal and external meetings, including agenda development and planning with critical constituents and content providers to ensure clarity of scope and objectives; issuing minutes of such meetings; developing and following up on action items emanating from such meetings; and coordinating events (e.g., Town Halls), as needed.

  • Develops and implements plans to continually improve colleague engagement

Project Support:

  • Creates and leads work streams for planning, development & execution of projects in response to the business needs including cross functional alignment.

  • Develops and maintains business relationships to assist in project advancement. Facilitates cross functional resolution.

  • Oversight of SharePoint sites, databases and surveys as needed.

Operational Support:

  • Partners with team responsible person and Global Medical and Regional Leads to build and maintain Global Medical Community (distribution lists, sharepoints, calendars, trainings, webex and face-to-face meetings).

  • Develops Change management plans & associated communication plans along with CMO as appropriate.

  • Leads & participates in multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams on behalf of CMO as requested.

REQUIRED SKILL SET

Education: Bachelor's degree is required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, MPH) strongly preferred

Prior Experience:

  • A minimum of seven to ten years in the pharmaceutical industry depending on the positions held and evidence of leadership

  • For internal candidates, experience in working in Medical Affairs organization, including brand medical and field based medical preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in communicating and negotiating in a matrix-based organization at all levels

  • Proven ability to facilitate open discussion and debate among key stakeholders and build relationships through partnering, anticipating needs, fulfilling expectations

  • Highly motivated with demonstrated track record of high performance and producing outstanding results

  • Demonstrated results in creating & managing complex projects, including experience in budgetary management & fiscal awareness

  • Must be independent, pro-active, self-motivated with strong organizational skills and possess the ability to manage priorities, handle multiple tasks with frequent tight deadlines

  • Strong strategic thinking skills and ability to lead strategic development
