Role Description

The Protein Engineering Department is seeking an outstanding Senior Scientist to lead protein engineering and technology development projects. The candidate will be responsible for working closely with individuals in both protein engineering and immunology/oncology groups to innovate, develop and characterize the next generation of protein therapeutics for cancer treatment. The candidate will have access to state of the art protein and antibody engineering technologies and will be expected to continue our tradition of developing world class methods and technologies that enhance our therapeutic discovery efforts.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include obtaining in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic targets of interest; design creative antibody/protein based therapeutics and characterizes their functionalities in cell based assays. This position requires the candidate to carry out hand-on lab work to apply protein engineering principles to generate novel protein therapeutics and use biochemical/cell biology principles to characterize them in vitro. The ideal candidate needs to have a strong understanding on how to engineer and characterize protein therapeutics. This work will also include close collaborations with biologists to design and evaluate different protein therapeutics of interest. The candidate needs to demonstrate strong desire and initiative to understand immunology and tumor biology, and help propose new ideas and techniques to discover next-generation therapeutics with unique functionalities.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biological Science (Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Protein Biochemistry, Cell Biology) or a related field (Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Biological Engineering)At least 2 years of post-graduate experience in either an academic or industrial setting is preferredStrong track record of scientific accomplishments demonstrated through publications in highly regarded journals and/or intellectual property generation.Track record of demonstrating analytical skills, creativity and unique problem solving skillsOutstanding pro-active attitude, interpersonal, collaborative and oral communication skillsStrong motivation, passion and commitment to science and engineering novel entitiesAbility and desire to work in an interdisciplinary scientific team and the desire to learn new techniquesAbility to analyze and interpret work published in the field and apply it appropriatelyTechnical expertise should include molecular biology and protein biochemistry, screening protein libraries, ELISA, FACS, and/or other biochemical and cell based assaysPrior experience in working with immune system derived proteins is preferredPrior experience in the in vitro characterization, e.g. activity, trafficking, signaling, is preferredPrevious experience with protein engineering techniques such as phage display and yeast display would be a plusPrior experience in protein modeling and analyzing protein structures would be a plusKnowledge of translational work involving antibody and protein therapeutics in immunology and oncology would be of significant advantagePHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS This is a bench scientist position in the field of cell/molecular biology and protein engineering. All the physical requirements for cloning, expressing, purifying proteins, cell base assays are required.
