PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Lead local medical team within the respective BU, aligned with the BU business goals and customer needs in order to maintain a therapeutic leadership position and drive business needs at a country level
External face of the company for BU medical issues
May represent Pfizer in high-level interactions with authorities as required

Reporting line into Sr. Medical Director Oncology Mid-Size Markets Western Europe

RESOURCES MANAGED (budget and FTEs)
The BU Medical Lead is responsible for managing resources and budgets related to the medical country specific BU overall product initiatives and programs. He/she is accountable for direct and indirect (via his/her reports) people management and development. He/she can take on leadership roles in the management of country BU projects and initiatives.
Development, Implementation and Communication of the BU MA strategies and of the MA Function in Country
Business Unit Leadership
Take collective responsibility with other Leads for the shape and direction of the BU by actively participating in the development of BU business strategy and objectives
Oversee recruitment, training and development of BU Medical Affairs team
Establish vision, direction and role purpose for the team
Plan and execute the respective BU KOL strategy for the respective country on highly ethical and medical professionalism grounds and bring their input into the medical strategies and plans .
Devise country medical plans on scientifically sound principles that will bring benefits to the patients, working in close collaboration with the Regional Teams and in accordance to the overall brand and portfolio strategy.
Allocate financial and medical FTE resources to each brand as per the operating plan provisions/ according to business needs.
Implement medical strategies according to the medical plans, across the BU portfolio of medicines, with emphasis on the data generating and the data communication activities.
Provide medical support and guidance to country BU to ensure that the commercial objectives of each medicine are realized through adherence to the highest ethical, legal, regulatory ethical standards.
Provide scientific input to the Market Access strategies and tactics in the respective country.
Communicate the value of the MA function to internal stakeholders (championing cross functional working, and working with the Regional Medical Teams and Country Leads)
Communicate the value of the Medical Affairs function to external stakeholders, aligning with customer needs, enhancing reputation and bringing medical insights into the organisation.
- Ensure consistent application of Pfizer internal standards and local regulations in BU medical affairs including those related to promotional material, medical and scientific relations, GPIHP, transparency of grant payments and FCPA in the respective business unit
Medical Strategic Development
Participate in Strategic Customer Planning Process to provide insight, expertise and medical support to the business.
Ensure that processes and procedures within BU medical are continuously reviewed and updated to meet current and future business needs.
Management of People
Lead, motivate and enhance the performance of the BU Medical Affairs team to achieve agreed objectives
The BU Medical Lead is responsible for talent management within the BU Medical function ensuring that Pfizer staff in BU organization are aware of opportunities and are encouraged to move across business units and platform functions in order to ensure that colleagues gain the necessary experience to function optimally within the organization
Ensure appropriate resource/people to fulfil objectives.
Achievement of budget plan.
Agreed contracts and processes in place with outsource partners.
Recruitment and retention of talented and capable staff.
MD or higher scientific degree
Line management experience in Medical Affairs or similar role
Education with solid experience, minimum of 5 years' experience in pharmaceutical industry preferable oncology
Gravitas, seniority, credibility, impact and influence
Good communications and presentation skills
Ability to lead toward alignment in a matrix organization
Well-organized with the ability to be flexible, prioritize multiple demands
Customer focus and business acumen
Convincing personality for our business model (value of innovations etc)
Medical Affairs Experience, including familiarity with Market Access issues.
Line management experience and a demonstrated track record of high performance and producing outstanding results
Knowledge of local regulations in promotional conduct, safety reporting and clinical research and deep understanding of the Country health environment including its structure, policy, key members and scientific societies.
Language skills: a good command in country specific and in English is a must
General business management experience
Broad therapeutic area experience but focus on the respective BU portfolio
