Pfizer Senior Computational Biologist in Cambridge, Massachusetts

WHY PATIENTS NEED YOU

Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best in class medicines to patients around the world.

POSITION SUMMARY

Pfizer's Research and Development is developing novel therapies that change patients' lives. We are seeking a highly motivated computational biologist with a passion for developing therapeutics for complex neurological diseases using multi-modal data in conjunction with innovative computational approaches. You will be a core contributor to the impactful, data-driven research in Pfizer's R&D organization.

This is a unique opportunity for you to apply deep computational expertise and neuroscience knowledge to transforming research in drug discovery. The rapid growth of high-dimensional biomedical data at all levels together with advances in powerful computational methods offer new opportunities for science-based drug discovery. There is a great need to integrate genetics and multi-omics data with endophenotypes and clinical data for better understanding of disease mechanisms, target discovery, indication prioritization, and precision medicine. Your core mission is to collaborate in cross-functional teams and apply computational biology expertise to influencing all stages of drug discovery for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration.

This role will be in close alignment with colleagues in project teams and partner lines as well as the Integrative Biology function to inform neuro drug discovery portfolio. We also expect the successful candidate to communicate the value of computational biology research and capabilities to advance awareness and implementation throughout Pfizer's R&D.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to execute science-based drug discovery at one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, at the Pfizer Biomedical Institute based in the Cambridge Innovation Hub.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams and provide computational biology expertise to advance drug discovery for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration.

  • Analyze and integrate multi-omics data to identify novel therapeutic targets, review and validate therapeutic hypotheses, better understand disease mechanisms and causal pathways, and inform translational medicine strategies.

  • Apply machine learning to the rich multi-level data (genetics, multi-omics, neuroimaging, fluid biomarkers, and clinical data) for target discovery, indication prioritization, and biomarker development.

  • Lead or participate in collaborations with external academic and industry partners to transform our computational biology toolbox, expand multi-modal data access, and internalize learnings for neuro drug discovery.

  • Communicate analyses and study findings with internal project teams, leadership, and external collaborators. Publish research findings in high quality scientific journals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Neuroscience, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years of relevant research experience in applying advanced computational biology to solving biomedical problems.

  • Extensive experience in analyzing multi-omics data (e.g., genetics, bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial omics, proteomics, etc.) for biomedical research.

  • Strong background and knowledge in human biology and/or medicine, especially neuroscience and related diseases.

  • Solid background and experience in statistics and/or machine learning; proficient in R and Python.

PREFERRED QUALIIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of work experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting is preferred.

  • Work experience in drug discovery for neuro diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, etc.); knowledge of immunology is a plus.

  • Enthusiasm for solving biomedical problems, and proven ability from ideation to finding computational solutions and advancing biomedical discovery.

  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in publications.
