Pfizer Sr Assoc Sci Data Support in Cambridge, Massachusetts

ROLE SUMMARY

This position will be a member of a research data support team, known as DS3, and work closely with bench scientists to facilitate the entry of scientific data into appropriate databases. The position is located in Cambridge, MA. This person will organize and format data and assist scientists with loading data into the databases to ensure data integrity and accuracy. Focus will be on in vitro and in vivo data, with the opportunity to also participate in genomics data space as a member of a larger data support team. It is also expected that this person will be a key contributor to software improvement discussions with the application owners as a 'super-user' of the systems and provide scientific use cases for improvement of the scientific application toolkit.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Scientific Data Support role will:

  • Meet independently with bench scientists to understand ongoing data support needs including internally and externally executed experiments and studies.

  • Collect in vitro, in vivo and genomic data from the scientists, prepare and clean as necessary, and assist scientists with loading the data to database systems.

  • Work with the scientific staff to incorporate best practices for data management into their processes for in vitro, in vivo and genomic studies.

  • Contribute to development of tools with software teams in order to improve user experience with research applications and increase dissemination of knowledge.

  • Provide application training to ensure that the maximum value is obtained from deployed systems and associated data.

  • Anticipate data needs as scientists move into new laboratory technologies and communicate to appropriate Business Technology organizations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Computer /Information Sciences, or equivalent experience

  • At least two years of industry experience highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology, biochemistry or immunology and related laboratory methods.

  • Must be proficient in scripting skills, such as Python, as it relates to data handling and cleaning

  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of software tools including R and Spotfire, excellent MS Excel skills required

  • Must be highly customer focused, with a can-do attitude, willingness to do what needs to be done

  • Excellent verbal (English) and written communication skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Listed below are skills we value, any or some of this skills will be a plus:

  • Demonstrated ability with Oracle, SQL, Unix/Linux, Windows, Mac a plus

  • Experience with AWS or GCP cloud services a plus

  • Excellent ability to research and learn new software tools quickly
