Pfizer Senior Scientist, Protein Sciences in Groton, Connecticut

Pfizer currently has two open Senior Scientist positions in the Structural and Molecular Sciences (SMS) group in Groton, CT. The SMS group collaborates with drug discovery projects across diverse therapeutic areas including Immunology, Internal Medicine, and Vaccines. The Ideal candidate will be a highly innovative scientist with significant experience in using protein-engineering approaches to dissect protein structure-function interactions in vitro and in vivo.


  • Use cellular and molecular biology tools to engineer proteins for assay development, targeted structural/functional and mechanistic investigation.

  • Identify, design, and implement protein and cell-based technologies to understand and validate protein targets of interest.

  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to support projects across diverse disease areas.

  • Remain current in applicable internal and external literature and apply new findings to address project challenges.

  • Effective oral and written communication of experimental work and analysis.


  • PhD in protein chemistry, biochemistry, or biophysics with 1-3 years of additional research experience.

  • Solid background in molecular biology including construct design and expression in a variety of cell systems.

  • Significant experience with diverse protein purification approaches for recombinant protein and protein complexes.

  • Strong training in biochemical and biophysical characterization approaches (DLS, SEC-MALS, SPR, anisotropy, FRET/BRET)

  • Working knowledge of cell engineering and cell-based assays to elucidate molecular interactions at the protein, DNA, and/or RNA level.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills to prepare, evaluate, and present scientific work through internal and external meetings.
