Pfizer TL/Manager Industrial Engineer in McPherson, Kansas

ROLE SUMMARY

The TL/Manager Industrial Engineer position contributes to McPherson Sterile Injectable Operations by developing and maintaining rate standards, process simulations, and systems to input and collect production data. The position will drive a culture of standard work and continuous improvement via deep partnerships with production colleagues and production management, focusing on improving key performance measures. The successful candidate will facilitate sound decisions on investments and operating strategies to enable the plant and broader network to prepare for the future.

This role will be responsible for the oversite of site Industrial Engineers; leading and developing their skills while setting a vision for the team and driving performance to achieve objectives. This role also partners with key stakeholders in the annual budget process, working closely with finance and production management to establish the basis for staffing models and product costing. This position will also provide key input to master planning activities and broader Pfizer-wide network strategy assessments.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain Drug Product rate standards, process simulations, and systems to input and collect production data.

  • Drive key aspects of the annual budget process, working closely with Finance and Production management.

  • Assure appropriate performance metrics exist and are in use for responsible plant area, including shop floor as well as management level metrics.

  • Using the typical Industrial Engineering tool set, analyze and assess shop floor related data, creating information for the plant to make sound decisions and prepare for the future.

  • Identify and recommend specific areas for change to meet cost, quality, supply or new product goals.

  • Facilitate, educate and partner with production management and colleagues to lead a culture of standard work and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Lead improvement projects (as project manager, or green belt / black belt leader) to deliver results in cost reduction, quality, supply or safety.

  • Lead a team of Industrial Engineers, developing their skills and building IE systems. Set a vision for the team and drive performance to achieve objectives.

  • Own, maintain and assure accuracy of tools, such as process simulation models, to support planning and production activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years related experience with BA/BS in technical discipline, preferrably Industrial Engineering; 3+ years related experience with Masters or PhD in technical discipline, preferably Industrial Engineering or related field.

  • 1-3 years experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, particularly drug product production desired.

  • Green Belt certification desired.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational skills required to ensure that both standard reporting responsibilities and project/budget deliverables are met.

  • Able to provide solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to policies and practices for guidance.

  • Strong data collection, computational and analytical capabilities to support performance improvement teams.

  • Summarize and communicate data and analyses to multiple levels of the organization in written, graphical, and oral formats.

  • Process simulation skills or experience with programming.

  • Knowledge of applicable technical standards, techniques, principles, theories, concepts and Pfizer processes and industry practices/standards. Knowledge of basic leadership principles.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional support of off-shift operations, as required, by project or operational needs. Will require occasional production floor gowning and direct production floor support.
