Pfizer Senior Manager, WRD Internal Communications in New York City, New York

ROLE SUMMARY

Pfizer Worldwide Research and Development (WRD) is a division led by a member of Pfizer's Executive Leadership Team. WRD is focused on discovering and developing new medicines in five therapeutic areas: Oncology, Vaccines, Rare Disease, Internal Medicine and Inflammation & Immunology. The division is comprised of approximately 8000 colleagues worldwide who are dedicated to translating innovative science into breakthrough therapies that transform patients' lives.

The WRD Internal Communications team manages the strategy, development and implementation of all internal and external communications for the division and leadership. The team is focused on supporting the leadership team's vision, strategies, objectives, and culture to optimize WRD colleague engagement and drive business performance.

Efforts include executive support; change management; cultural, recognition and branding initiatives; program delivery; event management; written, visual and digital communications development and production; and editorial management.

The Senior Manager will work closely with the Director, WRD Communications, and be responsible for building and implementing a metrics-driven communications strategy that deepens colleague engagement, builds trust and accelerates WRD business performance.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a colleague engagement program focused on shaping a culture rooted in scientific innovation and patient impact, and strengthening WRD's commitment to a growing ownership culture with special emphasis on objective-decision making, collaboration, and colleague pride and recognition. Tactics will include large-scale multi-media events; leader coaching and communications; branding; manager toolkits and training/info sessions.

  • Develop long-term strategic plan and day-to-day management of an integrated WRD editorial program across multiple channels.

  • Manage editorial calendar ensuring balance across themes and alignment with WRD goals. Identify and create opportunities for editorial cross pollination/efficiencies between WRD internal and external content, corporate reputation projects and other content sources.

  • Grow WRD's internal social media channel. Work directly with the President's office on a regular basis to grow his profile and following. Regularly write posts and produce follow-up videos.

  • Refine WRD's growing intranet. Ensure content is fresh, engaging and balanced across themes and in alignment with WRD goals. Proactively optimize intranet page design, archives, intranet design, and architecture to maintain a user friendly experience and aligned with communications/editorial strategy.

  • Create original content and adapt existing content to resonate with WRD audiences, including short-/long-form articles, videos, infographics, animated narratives, etc.

  • Assess evolving Pfizer and WRD business strategy and activities on an ongoing basis to recommend appropriate editorial coverage and intranet updates.

  • Manage WRD's internal branding program and manage updates in alignment with organizational changes.

  • Manage logistical planning and follow up for global colleague town halls and other select events. Ensure seamless technology support by arranging for AV requirements in global locations and overseeing BT relationship; manage "back of house" logistics on site; develop and distribute save-the-dates and meeting invitations. Responsible for creation and analysis of event surveys and reports.

  • Build and maintain close, collaborative, mutually beneficial partnerships with colleagues in the President's office and across Corporate Affairs and HR, and across WRD, among others. Leverage colleague networks to help drive cultural change.

  • Infrequent travel required. Occasionally needed to work outside of standard working hours in special circumstances

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in communications, English or related field.

  • Experience in healthcare/pharma sector preferred.

  • 7-10 years of experience in a communications role, preferably with demonstrated skills in developing, managing and delivering metrics-driven communications strategies and plans in a large, complex organization.

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing insight-driven, strategic and measurable internal communications programs.

  • Demonstrated expertise in coaching and partnering with senior leaders.

  • Strong point of view about the value of communications, and ability to provide strategic counsel for a variety of communications scenarios and to a variety of internal stakeholders.

  • Exceptional verbal, written and digital communication skills; ability to convey complex information to colleagues; thorough knowledge of Associated Press style. Experience working with complex-scientific content preferred.

  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and strategic, analytical and leadership capabilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a geographically diverse team.

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical sector, health care industry, and mainstream and emerging media industries.

  • Strong PowerPoint, Photoshop, design and video production skills andcreativity.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport and credibility with key internal stakeholders; influence/negotiation skills and relationship management capabilities a must.

  • Infrequent travel required. Occasionally needed to work outside of standard working hours in special circumstances
