The Scientist of Vaccines Research will join an organization of science driven and forward thinking leaders at our R&D site in Pearl River, NY who believe great things are possible in the field of microbial pathogenicity. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, enjoy working in a fast-paced multidisciplinary team environment, and will possess knowledge of molecular microbiology technologies.

The Scientist will have prior experience with specialized microbiology techniques including aseptic technique, BSL2 manipulation, culture media preparation, cultivation of microorganisms on selective and non-selective media, anaerobic bacterial culture, processing of bacterial cultures and strains for a range of biological assays, and maintaining frozen stocks. The Scientist will have the ability to troubleshoot, solve difficult problems, and propose solutions relating to bacterial culture and microbiology assays. Responsibilities include applying molecular biology techniques: PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA/RNA extraction and purification from bacterial pathogens, and gel electrophoresis. Experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library generation and analysis is a significant plus. Basic sequence data analysis and management including NGS bioinformatics tools is helpful. Documentation skills should include: generating high-quality protocols, reports and documents for regulatory and patent submissions and maintaining laboratory findings in an electronic notebook.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in life sciences with 6+ years of research experience

Master's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, bacteriology, genomics or a related field with 5+ years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in microbial population profiling using 16S rRNA gene sequencing or metagenomic approaches, knowledge of the microbiome, familiarity with concepts in statistics, and basic tools to analyze data. Ability to effectively manage, organize and prioritize multiple projects, communicating results to the project team and meeting deadlines.
