Pfizer Scientist in Pearl River, New York

This is a laboratory-based scientist position. The candidate will be expected to develop analytical assays under guidance of a more senior scientist and contribute to design, planning and execution of the qualification and transfer of these assays in support of Vaccine materials release and stability for early phase vaccine programs using analytical separations techniques (e.g., HPLC, CE, or gel electrophoresis) and spectroscopic techniques (e.g., UV-Vis and Mass Spec). All work is expected to be done in a compliant manner according to SOPs and GLP guidelines when applicable.


  • The individual is expected to design, plan, and execute assay development, qualification and transfer studies under guidance of a more senior scientist to support the release, stability and characterization testing of vaccine candidates for early stage development

  • Perform assays to characterize new and current vaccine products

  • Perform sample testing in support of process and formulation development of vaccine candidates

  • Plan and prioritize assay development and sample testing activities

  • Analyze data obtained from assay development and sample testing experiments, present data in the form of summaries or technical reports that are submitted to supervisor/ management for review

  • Draft and revise laboratory methods and reports

  • Support assay training and transfer of methods

  • Perform timely notebook entries and review for completed experiments.

  • Collaborate with other colleagues within the analytical group to support completion of assay development and qualification tasks as needed

  • Where applicable, perform job responsibilities in compliance with GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements

  • Satisfactorily complete all GLP and safety training in compliance with departmental requirements and follow appropriate safety practices in the workplace

  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • BS or MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline with at least 8 (BS) or 6 (MS) years of relevant work experience is required.

  • Experience in analytical assay development for biomolecules is essential.

  • Background in carbohydrate chemistry is a major plus.

  • A background in separation-based analytical techniques is essential. Experience with applying these technologies to biomolecules, such as polysaccharides and polysaccharide conjugates is preferred. Proficiency and ability to utilize techniques such as HPLC, CE, and UV-Vis to develop methods to analyze potential vaccine antigens and other vaccine components.

  • Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
