Pfizer Senior Scientist, Analytical Research and Development in Sandwich, United Kingdom
The qualified candidate will take an active role in the development and implementation of advanced analytical measurement and data analysis techniques in support of the portfolio. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of theory and application of spectroscopic techniques and chemometrics.
The individual will be responsible for the development of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) methods in support of both batch and continuous manufacturing analytics.

The individual will be part of a group that is highly focused on the use and implementation of said skills to better understand our products and processes throughout the development lifecycle. Job responsibilities will include developing, designing and performing experiments related to the implementation of measurement systems to our API land Drug Product processes in GxP laboratory and manufacturing environments.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline with 0-5 years' experience is highly desirable.
Alternatively, a BSc or MSc degree with a significant (at least 5 years) amount of experience in relevant areas would be considered.
Very knowledgeable in at least one vibrational spectroscopy area (NIR, IR, Raman, UV) with hands on experience in collecting data from solid or liquid samples.
PAT experience with a preference for powder and solids experience is highly desirable.
Expected to be very conversant with data collection and analysis, including chemometrics approaches and principles.
Is comfortable using advanced data searching and visualisation tools and confidently deploys data modeling and simulation packages
Engineering experience, continuous manufacturing or process control experience is desirable. Understanding of the differences between R&D and commercial manufacturing environments and experience with Process Analytical Technology (PAT) method development, validation and implementation would also be desirable.
Other factors that would be advantageous: understanding of the impact of excipient variation on product quality, API material characterization technique familiarity, understanding of the current regulatory landscape for the pharmaceutical industry, familiarity with various guidance and standards that are utilized by the pharmaceutical industry and familiarity with systems control principles.
Strong oral and written communication skills are a requirement for this highly interactive position.
Experience in the pharmaceutical space and an understanding of common laboratory techniques used to characterise both Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and Drug Product would be deemed advantageous for this position.
