Pfizer Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) is a South San Francisco biotechnology unit within the Oncology division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development, dedicated to doing its part to fulfill Pfizer's mission of working together for a healthier world. CID is dedicated to developing new protein therapeutics to improve human life by redirecting the immune system against cancer. CID researchers use the latest scientific knowledge and apply novel approaches to discover truly innovative Immuno-Oncology therapeutics. The Protein Engineering Department is seeking an outstanding Sr. Associated Scientist to aid in antibody discovery, engineering and technology development projects. They will be responsible for working closely with individuals in both protein engineering and biology to develop the next generation of antibody based cancer therapeutics. They will have access to state of the art antibody generation technologies and will be expected to continue our tradition of developing world class methods and technologies that enhance our therapeutic antibody discovery efforts.

Role Description

We are seeking an energetic and motivated non-PhD level Sr. Associate Scientist with experience in molecular biology, protein purification and cell based assays to join our protein engineering department in South San Francisco and to contribute to exciting immune-oncology therapeutic approaches. The successful applicant will be an integral part of a research team generating and evaluating novel antibodies and biologics for the treatment of cancer. They should express a keen interest in developing novel therapies.


  • The primary responsibility will be working on various aspects of therapeutic antibody discovery

  • Required to express various types of proteins including antibodies from mammalian systems and purify them using a variety of techniques

  • Required to u se standard tissue culture

  • Required an individual who is highly motivated, is open to and capable of learning new skills efficiently, has meticulous bench-work and record-keeping skills, can function independently

  • Analyze, organize, and present results in small and large group meetings

  • Read relevant scientific literature to aid in experimental design

  • Contribute to a dynamic, exciting culture that embraces teamwork and innovation


  • A BS in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering or an equivalent field with 3-5 years' laboratory research experience in protein engineering or protein biochemistry, or MS (with 0-3 years' experience).

  • Strong technical proficiency with molecular biology methods (PCR, nucleic acid purification, cloning)

  • Experience using mammalian or E. coli for protein expression

  • Experience with standard protein characterization techniques such as SDS-PAGE, ELISA, Western Blot is required

  • Expertise in protein purification

  • Experience with standard tissue cultures

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Ability to perform laboratory work and analysis of performed experiments
