Pfizer (Senior) Manager Supply Chain External Supply in Zaventem, Belgium


The Supply Chain (Senior) Manager External Supply (ES) is responsible for overseeing and directing all supply chain management activities at a about 20 Third Party Manufacturers located in Europe for Pfizer Essential Health (PEH) brands. This comprises supply planning into and out of Contract Manufacturers (CMO's) to Pfizer markets , Pfizer internal sites and third party customers.

Oversight of the end-to-end supply chain planning activities of the supply planning team which includes production planning/ scheduling, consigned materials planning, customer service, product lifecycle management, procurement, SC systems and data management, issue prevention and resolution.

Working in partnership with Virtual Site Operation Teams (VSOT), Contract Manufacturers' supply chain management, Brand Supply Leaders and ES Operations, this position is responsible for directing the activities of planning colleagues in managing and coordinating supply chain activities to ensure reliable product supply to market consistent with Pfizer objectives and customer service level / inventory management targets.

Manage and develop a team of 7-10 talented supply chain professionals by actively coaching, guiding and providing the necessary tools to ensure supply chain excellence. Participate in the ongoing evolution and development of initiatives within the Essential Health External Supply network that improve operational effectiveness, process robustness, and site supply chain capabilities.


Monitor and direct the activities of the team to ensure correct execution of key processes like:

  • Follow-up timely availability of customer forecasts.

  • Detect changes/ trends in forecast and interact with the market to verify and understand.

  • Communicate confirmed important changes to the stakeholders (CMO, Operations Manager, Finance, SC Director, Markets, Brand Supply Leads (BSL's)).

  • Take appropriate action to avoid/mitigate impact of important volume changes.

  • Secure issuance and sending out on time the monthly procurement plans.

  • Communicate the expected availability of orders towards markets.

  • Follow-up implementation of new SKU' / businesses and first order at the contract manufacturer's planning in accordance with launch date.

  • Manage transfer projects (Drug Product or Active Product Ingredient (API)) .

  • Timely detection of, pro-active approach towards- and adequate communication of expected/potential supply issues.

  • Tender business manufactured at CMO's.

  • S&OP meeting.

  • Product life cycle management activities to ensure supply continuity and to avoid obsolescence.

  • Management and reconciliation of tolled materials.

Ensure procedures and reports used in the team are in line with standard procedures for ES planning and execution is fully compliant with all audit requirements in the field of inventory management and accounts payable..

Work on continuous improvement and streamline procedures and processes to be used by the team and secure that processes are documented. Create and sustain an improvement culture by actively stimulating and supporting Operational Excellence initiatives.

Lead and facilitate the implementation of various projects and initiatives that impact the supply chain team

Provide people management in following areas:

  • Train, support and monitor ES planning colleagues in the team.

  • Be the first point of reference for planning colleagues in the team for matters relating to product supply.

  • Create an highly engaged working environment by actively working on an action plan to improve colleague engagement.

  • Create an 'Own it' culture in the team.

Organize the activities of the Supply Chain team by securing adequate distribution of the workload and organizing back-up in absence of a team member;

Collaborate with all other teams within the Supply Chain Hub (Artwork, SAP Solutions, Projects) and outside the hub (Intercompany Operations Customer Service, logistics, transport, customs etc.) to assure supply and improve efficiency of processes.

Align with other supply chain leads within the ES organization on processes.

Participate in Business Review Meetings (BRM's) with key contract manufacturers.

Represent External Supply Chain towards different stakeholders :

  • Ensure regular operational communication with the key markets.

  • Establish a network with Global Supply Chain (regional leads, BSL's, Above Market Planning leads etc.) to cooperate and share information as needed.

  • Organize face-to-face meetings with the important markets involving other ES colleagues as required.

Monitor and report Key Performance Indicators including percentage in stock, schedule attainment, inventory levels etc.

Organize and support yearly budget volume exercise and quarterly 'Latest Estimate' volume reporting

Approximately 10 % travel required (mainly Europe).


  • Level of education : Minimum Master degree (Engineering, Economics, Trade or Management) or equivalent trough experience;

  • Experience : Minimum 10 years working experience in a Materials Management and/or Manufacturing environment;

  • Languages : Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and at least one other major European language;

  • Other qualifications : Very good knowledge of planning tools (SAP APO and SNC) and related reporting tools (BOBJ Tableau). Very strong people management and communication skills.

  • Profile : Excellent verbal and written communication skills including a demonstrated ability to lead and participate in teams at all levels of management required. Can lead change and builds effective teams by demonstrating business acumen. Well-developed interpersonal skills (leadership, integrity, building effective teams, flexibility, creativity). Experience in projects that require collaborative approaches, strong analytical skills & solid ability to understand business issues and processes.
